When is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day may have started a century ago but it’s still going strong today. IWD is observed internationally on March 8.
The International Women’s Day 2023 theme is DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality, which we strongly believe in. Women are at the helm of our textile innovations and technology initiatives here at GOBI since our beginnings in 1981.
When did International Women’s Day start?
IWD can be traced to the early 20th century when women in many countries began campaigning for better working conditions, voting rights and gender equality. The first International Women's Day was observed on March 19, 1911, and since then it has become a significant day for women's rights and gender equality.
To get this celebration started, we wanted to present you with this guide on ways to observe IWD in style.
How to celebrate International Women’s Day
  1. Host an expert panel event at your workplace calling for diversity and inclusion
Women in the workplace need to feel supported and heard. Schedule a panel event at work on March 8 with knowledgeable speakers discussing the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
It can be a simple round table discussion in that supporters and allies can hear different voices on this very important issue. Hopefully, this will spark an interesting conversation with your fellow workmates.
Our Organic Colour Reversible Long Coat would make the perfect accompaniment to such an important event. It gives a classic film noir look with a modern twist. What says confidence and authority more than a 100% Mongolian cashmere coat?
2. Organise and host a reading by a female author
Women are taking the literary world by storm! Authors such as Sally Rooney to Gabrielle Zevin are making a name for themselves in an industry that is finally recognising women’s voices.
What a wonderful time to amplify women’s viewpoints than with a reading at your neighbourhood library or bookstore by a local female author. This is such a great way to market a local writer and give back to your community by offering a topic from a woman’s perspective.
GOBI’s Double-Breasted Cashmere Trench Coat will give you that sharp bookish look that’s most appropriate for such an event.
3.Gather like-minded women to volunteer in your community
Gather the troops and find a female-centric or gender-equality cause in your area that could use your support. Think homeless shelters, childcare facilities, food banks, hospitals and domestic abuse organizations to name a few.
Host a potluck lunch for the nurses at a hospital, feed people less fortunate than you, or host a fun event at a retirement home to show the power that women foster.
These are great ways to meet like-minded women and supporters to spread the word about female empowerment.
This Organic Colour Double Breasted Long Coat will keep you looking and feeling great when volunteering for a cause that is close to your heart. The natural colour will bring a soothing presence to your ensemble.
4. Host a family-friendly workshop on traditional handicrafts
This is a time to bring people together and acknowledge the contributions women make.
What better way than to host a family-friendly workshop on handicrafts? Get everyone in the act of drawing, painting, and creating beautiful objects together as a family to celebrate women’s creativity.
International Women’s Day does not have to be all about women, it can also honor all those that support gender equality.
